Drive-In Movie Theaters in Fort Worth

There’s something nostalgic about drive-in movie theaters that an everyday cinema can’t replicate. Having the personal privacy of being in your own car while also being in the open air alongside a bunch of other moviegoers provides an interesting experience – and of course, the movies are always pretty great as well. It has been said for years that the era of drive-ins may be drawing to an end, but there are still quite a few around the Fort Worth area for your viewing pleasure.

Coyote Drive-In, located on Panther Island just north of downtown, offers a double feature each night. That’s right – one ticket, which costs only $8 for ages 11 and up and $6 for those in the 3-11 age range, will get you into two movies. That’s a heck of a lot better deal than paying $20 at a standard movie theater for just one movie and a small bag of popcorn. And Coyote isn’t just showing movies that everyone’s seen already – big name shows, like Alexander & the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and Hero 6, are available for viewing on their giant projection screens. Dogs, kids, and everyone and everything in between are welcome, and even if you don’t have a car, you can prop up a lawn chair and watch a film in their general seating area. It’s a pretty sweet deal, and you’ll feel like you’re traveling back in time to the heyday of drive-in theaters.

If you’re willing to drive a bit longer, or if you live on the outskirts of Fort Worth, you can check out the Brazos Drive-In, located in Granbury. It offers a slightly different feel than Coyote, as it only has one screen. However, if you’re looking for a relaxed, intimate experience, Brazos would be a great place to go. They’re committed to being a family-friendly atmosphere, and you’ll often see kids running around playing in the spacious lawn area before the movie starts. It has a dedicated following, largely due to the off-the-beaten-path location that gives it its unique charm. They don’t announce what pictures are showing until a day before showtime, so be sure to check their Facebook page regularly.

Drive-ins are a great way to reconnect with the past. These Fort-Worth-area cinemas offer great family fun while also showing quality pictures – and you don’t even have to leave your own car to do it.
