December 9 is Home School Day at Arlington’s Christkindl Market
This Dec. 9, local homeschooling families are invited to Arlington’s premier Christkindl Market to enjoy a program specially designed for them, and put on by the Arlington Public Library. The program begins at 1:30pm, and is an hour-long lesson and crafting event with the theme of “Christmas in Germany”. No registration is required, and the program is suitable for all ages.
Christkindl markets date back to Reformation-era Germany, and were conceived of as a month-long event designed to draw the community together, and shift the holiday’s focus away from the Catholic St. Nicholas and towards the birth of the Christ child.
In addition to the special home school program (held in VIP tent at the center of the market), the event features booths staffed by artists from across the United States and even all the way from Germany. Handmade ornaments, unique gifts, and traditional German holiday fare such as caramel apples and bratwurst will be on offer all day.
Early arrivals will have the opportunity to check out performances by local junior high and high school students on the main stage, and Santa will be in residence from 3 – 8 pm, with photos available for purchase on site.
We’ll see you there!
